This is Downtown San José!
I’m excited to launch the “This is Downtown San José” Blog: Your new, reliable source for stories and updates about our vibrant Downtown. These posts will provide background on Downtown San José happenings, highlight small businesses and major events, and keep our community informed about the developments shaping the heart of our city. Downtown San José is home to more than 200 restaurants and bars, major cultural institutions, three active pedestrian malls, and a growing mix of residents, workers, and visitors, making it Silicon Valley’s most dynamic urban center. From major events like NVIDIA GTC and the upcoming U.S. National Table Tennis Championships to everyday moments on San Pedro Street, the SoFA District, Post Street, Little Italy, at the SAP Center, Creekside Social, the Paseo de San Antonio, Historic District and beyond, there is always something happening here.
My name is Michael Lomio. I serve as the City of San José’s Downtown Manager in the Office of Economic Development and Cultural Affairs. In this role, I work with businesses, property owners, community organizations, and City departments to help Downtown thrive; supporting new investment, activating public spaces, and making the district a great place to live, work, and visit.
Each week, I’ll be sharing new blog posts with updates and insights about Downtown San José. Some posts will also be written by colleagues across the City, including our Downtown Coordinator, Chris Arkley, and others who help keep Downtown moving forward every day. Our goal is simple: to inform, inspire, and connect with people like you who care about Downtown. Downtown’s the heart of our city. It’s our city center. And when our downtown thrives, our whole community is stronger. Stay tuned for the latest perspectives, behind-the-scenes updates, and stories celebrating everything that makes Downtown San José so authentic.
In Community,
