San Jose's workforce development program, work2future, is moving in next door to Prospect Silicon Valley ,  and will officially reopen its San Jose Career Center in the new location, 1608 Las Plumas Avenue in East San Jose, on Thursday, March 24, 2022, 1 pm.  

Public tours of the new center will begin around 2 pm. Spanish, Vietnamese, and Mandarin-speaking staff will be on hand to help answer questions. The opening program will be livestreamed on work2future’s Facebook page. 

The San Jose Career Center, which had been largely closed to the public since Santa Clara County public health officials issued a COVID-19 stay-at-home order in March 2020, was previously at the Kirk Community Center in the City's Cambrian Park area. The Center houses work2future's Adult, Dislocated Worker and Youth Programs funded by the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and is part of the state Employment Development Department's (EDD) American Job Centers of California network. 

Since January 2022, during a soft opening phase, Career Center staff have been assisting job seekers at the new site. In addition to career counseling and supportive services, the San Jose Career Center will host workshops and occupational skills trainings, job fairs and other activities designed to advance job seekers’ competitiveness and help employers meet their talent needs. work2future's state and federal mandates place a priority on serving individuals with low income and/or other barriers to employment and on workers who've lost their jobs (dislocated workers 
In addition to the WIOA services above, the Career Center at Las Plumas will house work2future's San Jose Works team (San Jose Works is a City program administered by work2future), as well as staff from the City of San Jose Housing Department's rental assistance services and, on a rotating basis, representatives from various workforce development partner organizations. 

Administered by staff from the City's Office of Economic Development &Cultural Affairs, work2future is the EDD-designated local workforce board for the San Jose-Silicon Valley Local Workforce Development Area which, in addition to San Jose, is comprised of seven other cities in Santa Clara County and the county's unincorporated communities.
