American Rescue Plan allocates $28.6 Billion in COVID relief grants for food and beverage businesses (English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese)

Part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan recently signed into law by President Biden will provide $28.6 billion in grants to the hard-hit hospitality sector. vin santo alfresco
The City of San Jose will be working with the regional office of the Small Business Administration (SBA) to help San Jose food and beverage businesses apply for the grants as the application process opens up. No date has been set yet for the launch, so watch for announcements.
 
It’s important to note that businesses that have applied for and received PPP loans will also be eligible to apply for the new grant.
 
There will be a special early-application advantage provided for independent hospitality business owners who are women, veterans, Black, indigenous, or people of color.
 
It is likely that these businesses will be eligible to apply for the grants:
  • Restaurants
  • Bars
  • Taprooms
  • Caterers
  • Brewpubs
  • Tasting rooms
 
The grant is intended to be used for payroll and benefits, mortgage payments, rent, utilities, maintenance, supplies, food, operational expenses, and any other expenses deemed essential by the SBA. 
 
The City of San Jose will be holding seminars and developing informational materials to help business owners apply once SBA announces the application process. We will provide updates through these emails and on our blog page and social media posts.
