Sister City Project with Pune's Hutatma Rajguru School-2007
The San Jose Pune Sister City Organization and Saint Francis High School of Mountain View have worked in partnership since 2006 to assist 30 students at the Hutatma Rajguru School, an all-girls school in Pune. Through the efforts of the Sister City Organization and Saint Francis High school, the students in Pune receive tuition assistance, school supplies, and baskets of food to help support their families. More importantly, a bond of friendship has developed between the students in San Jose and Pune and the Sister City Organization.
Shana Patadia, a Saint Francis High School student in 2005, was the inspiration behind the initiative. Shana traveled to India in 2005 to visit relatives in Pune. Seeking to learn about Pune's education system, Shana visited the Hutatma Rajguru School and interacted with students and faculty. Upon her return to San Jose, Shana helped to coordinate the participation of her Saint Francis High School classmates with the San Jose Pune Sister City Organization. The project with the Hutatma Rajguru School was led by Suneel Kelkar, Vijay Pendse, Shri Shende and members of the Sister City Organization.
